Interview with KENNY


JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
KENNY: People passed books back and forth that family members sent them. Or you could buy a bible off the canteen list for $13.50 each.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce?
KENNY: The television only picked 2 channels that could not be seen or heard for the static. 7 and 46 thats it. One t.v. per block. Not everyone could see it. No newspapers were allowed in there. The t.v. was turned on at odd times always past the news at 6 a.m. during the week 7 a.m. when inmates got out of their cells. On weekends the officers didn't turn the t.v. on till like 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
KENNY: Thats all a person can do is excersize. But if you do you will get hungry because the food trays that they serve my 2 year old niece would still be hungry after eating.

JM: How often did you get to go outside?
KENNY: After my 30 days were over.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
KENNY: Yes. Church was on Monday. I didn't go.
