Clothing

Interview with KENNY

JM: What types of clothes were most common?
KENNY: A two piece suit. That was changed out once a week with no hot water to even kill the germs in the washing machine.

JM: Did you have a set uniform? What did it look like?
KENNY: Yes. Blue pull over shirt with a pocket on the left side and blue pull up pants with elastic and no pockets. They took my white tank top, my grey underwear, my black socks and gave me none to put on. They make money off the canteen for 1 shirt md. & lg. $5.00 2x $5.50, briefs all sizes $3.50 for 1 pair, boxer shorts lg. $4.50, 1 pair of socks $1.50 shower shoes $1.50. They told me I need to have white underwear if I come back to jail and a white tee shirt on or they will take them if I come back.

JM: Were there any assigned clothes in high demand that an inmate should look for when getting clothing assigned?
KENNY: Yes pants without holes in the crotch since they take your underwear.

JM: Was the clothing different between men and women?
KENNY: The same but a different color.
